How to Replace a Ryobi Table Saw Blade: A Step-by-Step Guide

how to replace ryobi table saw blade

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Replacement blade (I’m replacing my old blade with a 24-tooth blade, which is better for rip cuts and provides smoother results on larger pieces of wood.)
  • Wrenches (included with the Ryobi table saw)

Step 1: Safety First

Before you do anything, make sure your table saw is completely unplugged. This step is absolutely essential to prevent accidents while you’re working on the saw.

Step 2: Locate the Wrench

The awesome thing about this Ryobi table saws is that they come with a wrench stored right underneath the saw. This helps ensure you’ll never misplace it — super helpful for those of us who seem to have a “tool fairy” like me that moves tools around!

Step 3: Remove the Throat Plate

Next, remove the throat plate, which is the flat metal piece surrounding the blade. For this Ryobi model, it locks and unlocks with a simple twist of the knob. Set it aside so you have access to the blade.

Step 4: Raise the Blade

Now, use the blade height adjustment wheel to raise the blade to its highest position. This will give you easier access to the nut holding the blade in place.

Step 5: Loosen the Nut

Here’s the main part! Use the wrench that came with your table saw to loosen the nut holding the blade in place. You might have to turn the blade by hand until you see the flat section on the arbor where the wrench fits.

It can be a bit tight, so use one wrench to hold the arbor still while you use the other to loosen the nut in the opposite direction. Once it’s loose, use your hands to finish unscrewing it.

Step 6: Remove the Old Blade

With the nut removed, carefully lift off the old blade. Be cautious here — the teeth are sharp, even on a dull blade!

Step 7: Install the New Blade

Now it’s time to install the new blade. Place the new blade on the arbor, making sure the teeth are facing the right direction — toward the front of the saw.

I made the mistake of facing the blade the wrong way once, and trust me, it was terrifying when I turned the saw on!

Step 8: Tighten the Nut

Once the new blade is in place, hand-tighten the nut onto the arbor. Then, use the wrenches to securely tighten it. Be sure to turn the nut in the correct direction (clockwise this time).

Step 9: Reinstall the Throat Plate

Reinstall the throat plate by twisting the knob back into the locked position.

And That’s It!

You’ve successfully replaced the blade on your Ryobi table saw. Regular blade maintenance not only improves your cutting accuracy but also extends the lifespan of your tools.
