I removed the trim… and it removed half the wall w I removed the trim… and it removed half the wall with it.

Apparently caulk was my builder’s solution to literally everything. 🫩

Sealed the torn paper, layered on the joint compound, sanded A LOT… and we’re slowly getting there.

Patching drywall is not my favorite, but we’re learning in real time over here.

Next up: ripping out the carpet.

I thought removing the balusters was going to be I thought removing the balusters was going to be  straightforward… Once the balusters came off, I realized the original holes were bigger than I thought, and some of them needed to be shifted for the new balusters.

Which meant one thing: every hole had to be filled first.
Quick tip if you’re using Bondo, it dries FAST. Ask me how I know 😅

I’m taking this one step at a time because these stairs still have to be used every day, which means slow, careful, and slightly chaotic progress.

Next up: patching the drywall after removing the trim. stair chaos continues 👀🪜

This is a main support post we’ve been walking past, every single day. So yeah… it finally makes sense why the stairs felt wobbly for a while.

New construction home problems are more common than you think… which is exactly why I’ve learned to DIY so much.

But when the railing started getting worse, I knew it wasn’t something I could ignore anymore.
