This garage cabinet build was one of my first big DIY projects over 2 years ago. Still one of the best things we’ve done to our garage.

I honestly had no idea what I was doing. But I figured if I mess it up, it’s just the garage. I made lots of mistakes building this, and I share all that with you in the detailed blog post and detailed video as well as a step by step detailed PDF guide.

I’ve posted about this a few times because it’s one of my must-have tools for DIYers. I’ve used it in almost every project.

Even if you don’t do any major home renovations, anything heavy you hang on the wall-whether it’s a shelf, a frame, or a mirror-should always be nailed or screwed into a stud when possible. This ensures it’s secure and won’t fall.

Before getting a stud finder, I had no idea what studs were. I was randomly hanging things on my wall without checking, which caused a shelf to fall. Luckily, no one was hurt!

In this video, you can see the nail on the wall because it’s popping out (yes, it still works even when you can’t visibly see the nail or screw). Most of the time, you can’t see the nails or screws on the wall. In that case, just move the stud finder around to locate them!
